University education should be application-based, promote academia-industry linkage: President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized that the subjects in the university should be more application-based and should promote academia-industry linkage, urging policymakers to focus on future readiness.

The President, while speaking at the convocation of Panjab University on March 12, praised the university’s efforts in the past 140 years to become a major center of higher education.

“This university has made its own identity in academic, sports, research, and cultural fields,” she said.

President Murmu also noted that Panjab University has won 17 Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, adding that it is a testimony to the dedication and determination of the athletes of this University.

“Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, students of this university, have made the country extremely proud by winning medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” she said.

She further urged students to have a positive mindset and acquire an advanced skill set to face the challenges of the times ahead.

The President told students that it is a matter of pride for them that they got the opportunity to study at this prestigious university.

“This university has given the society many great personalities ranging from the President, Prime Minister, Nobel laureates to leaders and outstanding contributions in various fields,” she noted.
