The paid program offers global placements for students and recent graduates, providing hands-on experience in development and humanitarian work across education, health, child protection, and emergency response sectors.

UNICEF has opened applications for its 2026 Internship Programme, offering paid opportunities for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in global development and humanitarian work.
The United Nations Children’s Fund is accepting applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students, PhD candidates, and graduates who completed their studies within the last two years. Internships are available across UNICEF offices worldwide and span multiple functional areas.

According to UNICEF, the program is aimed at helping early-career professionals develop practical skills while working on initiatives that affect children and communities.
Interns will work alongside experienced professionals in fields such as education, health, child protection, communications, human resources, and emergency response.
Internship assignments range from six to 26 weeks and may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the role and department.
Selected interns receive a monthly stipend to support basic living expenses, along with a one-time contribution toward travel and visa costs, subject to funding availability. UNICEF also provides documentation support for visa processing when required.
In addition to financial assistance, interns gain direct exposure to humanitarian and development projects, professional mentoring, and opportunities to build international networks.
The organization says the program is designed to offer practical insight into UNICEF’s core operations while preparing participants for future careers in global development.
To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a degree program or have graduated within the past two years.
Candidates must be proficient in at least one of UNICEF’s working languages, English, French, or Spanish, with additional language requirements depending on the role.
Strong academic performance and demonstrated motivation are required, while relevant prior experience is considered an advantage. Applicants must not have immediate family members working at UNICEF or in a direct reporting relationship.
Internship vacancies are released throughout the year, and application deadlines vary by position. Interested candidates can view available roles and submit applications through UNICEF’s official careers portal.
