UK’s University of Liverpool opens admissions for first India campus in Bengaluru

The University of Liverpool has confirmed that its first India campus will begin operations in Alembic City, Bengaluru, in 2026, with admissions for the initial batch already underway.

The expansion marks the university’s formal entry into India, and eligibility criteria, available programs, and application details have been published on the institution’s India admissions portal.

According to the university, the Bengaluru site is being built as a modern learning environment equipped with smart classrooms suited for practical sessions, case-based learning, and flipped instruction.

The campus will include dedicated research facilities, innovation studios, and collaborative zones meant to bring students from multiple disciplines together and support engagement with industry.

Specialized laboratories and Bloomberg terminals will also be available to give students access to tools used in global workplaces.

Officials said the goal is to create a flexible academic setting that encourages different learning styles and helps students build hands-on skills.

The new campus will offer programs in Computer Science, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Biomedical Sciences, and Game Design, with the last described as a first-of-its-kind offering by a UK university operating in India.

All degrees will follow UK academic standards while incorporating elements tailored to India’s demand for future-oriented skills.

Lucy Everest, the university’s Chief Operating Officer, visited Mumbai and Bengaluru from Nov 15 to 19, meeting school leaders, educators, and prospective students.

During a keynote address in Mumbai, she highlighted how the upcoming campus supports India’s National Education Policy 2020, which targets a 50% higher education enrollment rate by 2035.

She said the campus reflects the NEP’s emphasis on globally connected institutions that remain aligned with local priorities and added that Alembic City offers an ideal location for the university’s plans.

The university also intends to build a strong research presence in Bengaluru, with a focus on sustainability, digital transformation, innovation, and health sciences, areas that matter to both India and the UK.

The campus will feature an integrated experience zone designed as an open space for students, faculty, industry partners, and the wider community.

Modular classrooms and co-working areas will support group work, seminars, and direct knowledge exchange among faculty, students, and entrepreneurs.
