Indian students selected for the program will gain access to world-class UK education, specialized training, and post-study work opportunities to enhance skills and career prospects.

The British Council, in partnership with the UK government’s GREAT Britain campaign, has announced the GREAT Scholarships 2026–27 for Indian students pursuing postgraduate studies in the UK.
The program is aimed at academically strong students from India who want to pursue one-year taught postgraduate courses at UK universities. For the 2026–27 academic year, 12 scholarships will be offered across a range of disciplines by participating higher education institutions.

Universities taking part include Anglia Ruskin University, Norwich University of the Arts, Queen’s University Belfast, Royal College of Art, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Royal Northern College of Music, the University of Bristol, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the University of Dundee, the University of Reading, the University of Surrey, and UWE Bristol.
Each scholarship provides at least £10,000 toward tuition fees and is intended to help high-performing Indian students access UK higher education and specialized academic expertise.
The scholarships cover subjects such as finance, marketing, business, psychology, STEM, design, and humanities, along with arts, music, and dance. Four universities are offering awards specifically for creative and performing arts programs.

According to an official statement, the scholarships are jointly funded by the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council, and participating universities. The initiative is designed to widen access to UK education while strengthening educational and cultural links between India and the UK.
The statement said the UK education system is known for academic rigor and a wide range of subject options, offering students exposure to varied teaching methods and opportunities to build practical and analytical skills. It added that post-study work routes allow graduates to gain professional experience that can support long-term career growth.
The GREAT Scholarships are intended to help Indian students pursue specialized postgraduate study in the UK while developing global perspectives and skills relevant to future careers, the statement said.
