The collaboration will support joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and innovation-driven initiatives, boosting Hyderabad’s role as a prominent center for life sciences, biotechnology, and cutting-edge scientific development.
Telangana has signed a collaboration agreement with RMIT University in Melbourne to strengthen education and research in life sciences, linking Hyderabad’s Genome Valley with Australia’s research ecosystem.
The partnership will include joint PhD programs, student and faculty exchanges, and industry-integrated research initiatives, aiming to expand the state’s research and development capabilities while aligning academic programs with emerging fields such as biotechnology, molecular biology, and bioengineering.
The Telangana Life Sciences Foundation, which facilitated the collaboration, said the initiative supports the state’s vision of developing globally competitive researchers for India’s pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
This alliance builds on RMIT’s previous work in India, including the BITS–RMIT Higher Education Academy, which provides exchange opportunities and collaborative learning models for Indian scholars.
IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu noted that such international collaborations complement the government’s plans to establish a dedicated School of Life Sciences to train future scientists.
Telangana Life Sciences Foundation CEO Shakthi Nagappan added, “The partnership would support technology transfer, joint research centers, and innovation-driven academic programs, strengthening Hyderabad’s position as a biotech research hub.”
