The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the timetable for the 2027 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. However, the schedule has attracted attention because five Class 12 subject papers are slated to take place on March 22, a date reported to coincide with Holi.
The scheduling overlap has prompted students and parents to question whether the board will reconsider the examination date to avoid difficulties for candidates observing the festival.According to the published date sheet, the CBSE Class 12 examinations will begin on February 16, 2027, and continue until April 9, 2027. The examinations scheduled for March 22 will be conducted in the morning shift.

As per the published examination schedule, the following five papers are scheduled for March 22, 2027:
| Subject | Subject Code | Exam Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India | 073 | 10:30 am–1:30 pm |
| Bhoti | 188 | 10:30 am–1:30 pm |
| Kokborok | 191 | 10:30 am–1:30 pm |
| Banking | 811 | 10:30 am–12:30 pm |
| Electronics Technology | 820 | 10:30 am–12:30 pm |
All five examinations will be held in the morning session, although the duration varies by subject. Students appearing for these papers should check their subject codes and examination timings carefully.
The festival calendar requires some clarification. According to Drik Panchang, Holika Dahan will take place on March 21, while Rangwali Holi will be celebrated on March 22, 2027. However, the Government of India's holiday calendar lists Holika Dahan on March 22 and the gazetted Holi holiday on March 23.Therefore, the festival observance and official holiday dates may differ depending on the calendar followed. The examination date does overlap with the commonly observed Rangwali Holi date in several calendars.
As of November 7, 2026, CBSE has not announced any revision to the Class 12 examination scheduled for March 22. No official notification regarding the postponement or rescheduling of the five papers has been issued.Students should therefore continue preparing according to the existing timetable rather than assuming that the examinations will be postponed.
The board's official website, cbse.gov.in, should be treated as the primary source for any changes to the examination schedule. Students are advised to regularly check the examination notifications section for updates. The final decision on whether to change the examination dates rests with CBSE. Until an official revised date sheet is released, the March 22 examination schedule remains applicable.
