Pondicherry University plans SNCI chapter to strengthen neuroscience research skills

Pondicherry University has proposed setting up a campus chapter of the Society for Neurochemistry India (SNCI) to strengthen research skills among students and research scholars.

The proposal was discussed during the 40th Annual Conference of the Society for Neurochemistry India, hosted by the university from Sept 24 to 26, 2026.

Organized by the Department of Life Sciences, the three-day conference brought together around 350 researchers from India and abroad.

Vice Chancellor P Prakash Babu inaugurated the conference on Sept 24, while SNCI President Amitabha Chattopadhyay was among the speakers.

"We are planning to set up a chapter of the Society in the University to strengthen the skills of students and research scholars," P Prakash Babu said.

Deputy Registrar K Magesh said the conference provided students and young researchers with an opportunity to develop practical research skills.

The conference focused on "integrative neurochemistry, neuro informatics and therapeutics" and covered developments across neuroscience and related biomedical fields.

Researchers discussed neuroinformatics, artificial intelligence, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, brain imaging and electrophysiology.

The event also examined challenges in developing treatments for neurological disorders, including drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier and the identification of potential therapeutic targets.

The proposed SNCI chapter is expected to provide students and research scholars with an institutional platform for academic activities and research engagement in neurochemistry and related disciplines.
