PM Modi pays tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya and highlights the role of engineers in driving India’s development on Engineers’ Day 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, recognizing his significant contributions to India’s engineering and infrastructure development.
In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “Today, on Engineers’ Day, I pay homage to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose brilliance left an indelible mark on India’s engineering landscape. I extend warm greetings to all engineers who, through their creativity and determination, continue to drive innovation and tackle tough challenges across sectors.”
The Prime Minister emphasized the essential role engineers play in realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and noted that their work is crucial for the country’s growth across multiple sectors, including infrastructure, technology, and sustainable development.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings, highlighting the importance of engineers in advancing India’s technological and developmental progress.
Engineers’ Day is observed annually on September 15, marking the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, one of India’s most distinguished engineers.
Across the country, educational institutions and engineering bodies held events, workshops, and award ceremonies to honor engineers’ contributions, inspire young professionals, and showcase recent achievements in various fields of engineering.
PM Modi’s message, along with nationwide observances, underscores the role of engineers as key contributors to India’s development and innovation, celebrating their work in building a modern and resilient nation.
Sir M Visvesvaraya: India’s Engineering Pioneer
Sir M. Visvesvaraya, born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli, Karnataka, is remembered as one of India’s most distinguished engineers. He played a pivotal role in the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam, introduced flood management systems in Hyderabad, and contributed to modernizing India’s infrastructure during his tenure as Diwan of Mysore. His innovative approaches to engineering and administration earned him the Bharat Ratna in 1955.
