Pakistan Cricket Board has complained to the Asian Cricket Council alleging that Indian players, including captain Suryakumar Yadav, skipped customary handshakes during their recent Asia Cup match in Dubai.
After the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 group-stage match on Sep 14 in Dubai, a controversy erupted after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) lodged a formal protest, alleging that Indian players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts, both at the end of the match and during the toss.
According to the PCB, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav did not shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha at the toss, and the same snub followed at the end of the game.
The protest also includes a claim against match referee Andy Pycroft, who, the PCB alleges, advised Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with Yadav.
Pakistan’s displeasure escalated further when Salman Ali Agha boycotted the customary presentation ceremony after the match. The PCB says this was in response to what they consider a breach of cricket’s “spirit” norms.
The “Spirit of Cricket” code expects teams and players to congratulate opponents after the match, whether in victory or defeat.
The PCB has taken its complaint to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), seeking action against both the Indian players involved and the match referee.
Meanwhile, Indian team’s perspective or response has not been publicly documented as of the latest reports.
