The cost of education in India, especially in urban areas, has skyrocketed, leaving parents struggling to pay for their children's education. Private schools target wealthy families with high tuition costs, particularly those that offer an international curriculum.
A nursery school's exorbitant annual fee structure recently went viral, shocking many with the excessive costs and igniting considerable outrage.
The breakdown of fees includes a high ₹55,600 admission cost reserved for nursery and junior KG kids, as well as a staggering ₹8,400 one-time parent orientation fee.
An ENT surgeon, Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi, posted the notice on X, writing, "₹8,400 parent orientation fee!!! No parent will ever agree to pay even 20% of this for a doctor consultation. I am planning to open a school now."
His tweet struck a chord with many parents who are experiencing a similar situation, and several shared their thoughts in the comments section.
One user commented, "These businesses feed on snob value. If you want this system to stop, start by not sending your child to such a school. That's a difficult move for a parent due to FOMO. Hence, the cycle goes on."
"People will spend for their children what they will never do for themselves. That is why expensive coaching centers, schools, and colleges are proliferating like crazy," said another user.
A third user commented, "We need a revolution in the education system. Can some startups come up with an affordable pricing structure with a quality education syllabus?"
A fourth added, "I completed my engineering for less than this!"
A Gurugram real estate consultant, Udit Bhandari, expressed a similar concern on X.
He voiced his dissatisfaction about his son's costly school fees, which continuously increase by 10% annually. He revealed that his son, a standard 3 student, attends a reputable CBSE school in Gurugram, where the monthly tuition is ₹30,000.
Bhandari estimated that when his child enters Class 12, he will have to spend almost ₹9,000,000 in fees per year if the institution continues to raise its tuition by 10% annually.
The cost of education in India, especially in urban areas, has skyrocketed, leaving parents struggling to pay for their children's education. Private schools target wealthy families with high tuition costs, particularly those that offer an international curriculum.
Meanwhile, middle-class and lower-class families struggle financially and forgo other necessities to prioritize their children's education.
