Now available for free in India, ChatGPT’s Study Mode offers personalized academic support with quizzes, simplified explanations, summaries, and goal tracking to boost student learning and revision across subjects.

OpenAI has introduced a new ‘Study Mode’ in ChatGPT, now available for free to users across India.
The feature is built to help students with academic learning, exam preparation, and concept clarity by offering personalized support powered by artificial intelligence.

Study Mode allows users to ask subject-specific questions, generate AI-based quizzes, receive summaries of long texts, and get step-by-step solutions to problems in subjects like math, science, history, and more.
It is designed to function like a digital tutor within the ChatGPT interface, supporting high school and college-level learners alike.
The tool can be activated directly through the ChatGPT app or website. Students can simply log in, select the “Study Mode” option from the home screen, choose their subject, and begin exploring. No subscription or payment is required.
“Study Mode brings personalized learning to the fingertips of students who might not otherwise have academic support,” an OpenAI spokesperson said. “It’s about making quality education more accessible and interactive.”
The feature includes capabilities such as goal setting, tracking study sessions, simplifying complex topics, and delivering focused academic support. Students can also combine AI-generated content with their own notes for better revision.
To maximize the benefits of Study Mode, students are encouraged to adopt a structured learning approach. They can start by breaking down their subjects into daily lessons, allowing for consistent progress over time.
Regular practice using AI-generated quizzes helps reinforce concepts and identify weak areas before exams. When faced with complex topics, learners can ask for simplified explanations or analogies to better grasp the material.
Summaries of long chapters can be used for efficient revision, especially during exam season. Additionally, the flexibility to explore multiple subjects makes Study Mode a versatile tool for both high school and college students.
India, home to one of the world’s largest student populations, stands to benefit significantly from this rollout.
With rising tuition costs and unequal access to tutoring, Study Mode offers a low-cost learning alternative at scale, especially in underserved areas.
