Economist and former Planning Commission chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia urged students to build analytical thinking and adaptability as the university aimed to prepare future-ready leaders for changing the world.
NIIT University placed its focus firmly on future-ready education as it hosted the 17th edition of its Annual Lecture in Neemrana, bringing students face-to-face with one of India’s most influential economic thinkers.
Renowned economist and former Planning Commission chairman Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia delivered the keynote address, urging young learners to cultivate analytical thinking, adaptability, and evidence-based decision-making as they prepare to navigate an increasingly volatile world.

The event drew the presence of NIIT University Founder Rajendra S Pawar, Co-founder Vijay Thadani, and President Prof Prakash Gopalan.
Speaking on the theme “India’s Opportunities in a Turbulent World,” Dr Ahluwalia outlined how geopolitical flux, climate transition, and rapid technological shifts are creating a landscape filled with both risks and promising openings for India.
Drawing from decades of experience in economic reform, he stressed the urgent need for long-term planning and policies grounded in evidence, while encouraging students to remain globally aware and ready to adapt to uncertainty.
He said that India’s ability to respond effectively to interconnected challenges such as urbanization, sustainability, and new partnerships on the world stage will determine the country’s future trajectory.
He added that these areas offer significant room for innovation, leadership, and meaningful contributions from young professionals.
His observations on India’s development path and his emphasis on using volatility as a springboard for opportunity held the attention of students, faculty members, and invited guests.
The focus of this year’s lecture aligns with Founder Rajendra S Pawar’s vision of building a new model of higher education that blends academic strength with the ability to think independently and act with purpose.
“Across the world, rapid change is creating both challenges and significant openings for countries like India. At NIIT University, we believe our students must be prepared to navigate this environment with insight, discipline, and curiosity. Our Annual Lecture series, now in its 17th year, was built on this very belief,” said Pawar.
“What began in 2009 with the first lecture delivered by our Chancellor Dr Karan Singh, on a piece of barren land that many thought held no promise, but over the years has grown into a tradition that brings timeless wisdom and contemporary insights to our students,” Pawar added.

“By developing the ability to analyze complexity, think independently, and adapt to new realities, they can transform uncertainty into opportunity. We remain committed to nurturing young individuals who are not only academically strong but also equipped to contribute meaningfully to India’s growth in an era where informed leadership matters more than ever,” Pawar continued.
Prof Prakash Gopalan, President of NIIT University, highlighted the expanding prospects available to students who can understand global shifts and respond with clarity.
“Today’s world may appear unpredictable, but it offers India, and our young learners, the remarkable opportunities for growth. Students who would understand global patterns and can think independently and approach challenges with confidence will find themselves well-prepared to seize emerging opportunities. Their choices and contributions will shape not just their own paths, but the broader direction of our nation,” he said.
