The agency introduced new security, technology, and administrative measures, while the Centre intensified monitoring of misinformation networks and preparations for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has initiated a major restructuring exercise to strengthen its administrative and technological framework following recommendations made by the high-level expert committee set up by the Government of India to reform the country’s examination system.
The reforms come in the aftermath of the NEET-UG 2026 controversy after the May 3 examination was cancelled over alleged paper leaks and irregularities affecting more than 2.2 million candidates nationwide.

In an official statement, the NTA said the measures are aimed at improving the integrity, transparency, and efficiency of examinations conducted by the agency, which handles tests for over one crore candidates annually.
The agency acknowledged concerns raised by students, parents, and educators after recent developments and said the changes are part of a “comprehensive and continuing programme” involving structural, technological, and human resource reforms to restore trust in the examination process.
Senior Officers Appointed To Strengthen Administration
As part of the overhaul, the Government of India has posted four senior officers to the NTA in recent days to reinforce the agency’s leadership structure.
The appointments include two Joint Secretary-level officers and two Director-level officers. Based on the recommendations of the Radhakrishnan Committee, the Joint Secretary-level officers will function as Additional Director Generals within the agency.
According to the NTA, the officers bring extensive administrative experience from central government services and inter-ministerial assignments, which is expected to improve operational capacity as the agency’s responsibilities continue to expand.
NTA Opens Applications for Specialist Leadership Roles
The agency has also invited applications for three senior specialist positions, including Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Chief Finance Officer (CFO), and General Manager (Human Resources).
The NTA said these appointments are intended to introduce high-level expertise in technology, finance, and workforce management to modernize institutional systems and strengthen operational processes.
The Chief Technology Officer will oversee the agency’s digital examination infrastructure, including candidate-facing portals, confidential question paper management, cybersecurity systems, biometric and facial authentication, and AI-based integrity monitoring mechanisms.
The Chief Finance Officer will supervise examination-wise accounting, treasury operations, statutory compliance, audit systems, and financial governance.
Meanwhile, the General Manager (HR) will manage employee lifecycle processes across permanent, deputation-based, and contractual staff while focusing on HR modernization, employee engagement, and policy development.
Applications for the three positions will remain open for 15 days from the publication of advertisements on the official NTA website.
The agency said selections will be made by a duly constituted Selection Committee based on qualifications, professional experience, and demonstrated capability.
The advertisements also highlight the importance of prior experience with Government of India systems and leadership of mission-critical institutions.
Wider Institutional Reforms Underway
The NTA stated that strengthening its leadership structure forms part of a broader institutional reform program being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and the High-Level Expert Committee.
The reforms include changes in question paper preparation, translation, printing, and logistics with technology-enabled safeguards at multiple stages.
Other measures include AI-driven analytics, biometric authentication systems, secure digital infrastructure, enhanced audit mechanisms, professional training of staff, stronger grievance redressal systems, and improved communication with candidates.
According to the agency, additional reforms will continue under the supervision of the Ministry of Education, the Department of Higher Education, and the NTA Governing Body.
Dharmendra Pradhan Reviews Security Preparations
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a high-level review meeting with central security and intelligence agencies to assess security arrangements for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination.
During the meeting, the Minister stressed the need for heightened vigilance and stronger security protocols to ensure the examination is conducted fairly and securely.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the Director General of the NTA were also present. Discussions focused on identifying potential vulnerabilities and implementing timely preventive and corrective measures.
Government Raises Concern Over Online Misinformation
In a separate meeting with representatives from Meta, Google, Telegram, and other major social media platforms, officials expressed concern over the spread of misinformation related to competitive examinations.
Authorities observed that several Telegram channels and anonymous online groups become highly active before major examinations by circulating fake paper leak claims, misleading content, and unverified information that triggers panic among students and parents.
Officials also noted that many suspicious links redirect users to automated bots and fake groups designed to amplify misinformation.
According to intelligence inputs, multiple questionable channels are reportedly being operated using a limited set of phone numbers, suggesting coordinated activity behind the campaigns.
Minister Directs Crackdown on Fake Channels
Taking serious note of the issue, Dharmendra Pradhan instructed authorities to initiate a focused crackdown on networks spreading fake information and panic before examinations.
He directed agencies to proactively identify, block, and remove channels involved in spreading misinformation and propaganda.
The Minister also said social media companies must work closely with the Ministry of Education, the NTA, and law enforcement agencies to curb the circulation of false information and protect the integrity of the examination process.
Reaffirming the government’s position, he said protecting students from misleading narratives and maintaining public confidence in the examination system remain key priorities.
Punjab Announces Free Bus Travel For NEET Candidates
Ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-test scheduled for June 21, the Punjab government has announced free travel for candidates on Punjab Roadways buses from June 20 to June 22.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann shared the announcement through a social media post, stating that many students face financial difficulties while traveling to examination centers.
Under the initiative, students appearing for the examination will be allowed to travel free of cost by showing their NEET UG 2026 admit cards while boarding Punjab Roadways buses.
The Chief Minister said the decision was taken to support economically weaker students who often struggle to arrange travel expenses to reach their exam venues.
The NEET 2026 examination will be conducted nationwide for admissions to undergraduate medical courses, with lakhs of candidates expected to appear.
The Punjab government’s move is expected to particularly benefit students traveling from rural areas, where transportation costs can place an additional burden on families.
