Petitioners allege exam disruption at over a dozen centers in Madhya Pradesh; SC issues notice to NTA seeking response on reported lack of arrangements.
The Supreme Court on July 16 agreed to hear a petition demanding a re-examination of NEET UG 2025 for candidates who allegedly faced electricity outages during the test at centers in Indore and Ujjain. The case is expected to be heard next week.
The petition comes in response to a Madhya Pradesh High Court ruling that had dismissed a similar request.
Earlier, the High Court had temporarily stayed the release of NEET UG results after receiving complaints about power cuts at multiple exam centers in Indore.
Petitioners claim that over 12 centers in Indore were affected by outages during the examination, severely disrupting the test environment and student concentration.
According to the plea, many candidates were unable to complete sections of the paper, with some only receiving emergency lighting or candles as late as 4:30 PM, just 30 minutes before the exam concluded.
The petition calls for a fresh examination at the affected locations. Taking the claims into account, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA), directing it to respond to concerns over the alleged lack of proper arrangements.
NEET UG 2025 was conducted on May 4, with results published on June 14. Of the 22.09 lakh students who appeared for the medical entrance exam, 12.36 lakh qualified.
