Himachal govt schools see 24,000 new admissions as CBSE curriculum boosts enrollment

Around 24,000 students who were earlier studying in private schools have joined government schools in Himachal Pradesh during the current academic year, the state government said.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said these students have enrolled across nearly 150 government schools after the state implemented the CBSE curriculum in its government school system.

The government attributed the development to its initiatives to strengthen the quality of education in public institutions.

Addressing an event in Nagrota Bagwan, Sukhu said the state is working on comprehensive reforms in school education and that government schools will see significant changes over the next two to four years.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s plans to expand medical education facilities in Himachal Pradesh.

He said 330 postgraduate medical seats are proposed to be added across government medical colleges in the state, including 100 PG seats at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC), Tanda.

According to the state government, the expansion of postgraduate seats will help increase the number of specialist doctors and improve healthcare delivery across the region.

The government further said efforts are underway to modernize medical infrastructure by installing advanced equipment at government medical colleges and hospitals. The upgrades are expected to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for specialized medical treatment.

Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in India to introduce robotic surgery in the government healthcare sector.

He added that 3 Tesla MRI scanners are being installed in all government medical colleges, with facilities already available at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla and Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS), Chamiyana.

In addition, district and regional hospitals are being equipped with 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners, PET scanners, CT scanners, and advanced cancer treatment systems. The government is also replacing outdated medical equipment as part of its healthcare modernization efforts.

The announcements were made during the Chief Minister’s visit to Nagrota Bagwan, where he reviewed various development projects and initiatives being carried out in the area.
