NEET UG 2025: NMC revises seat count after error, reduces total by 50

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a revised seat matrix for NEET UG 2025, correcting the total number of available MBBS and BDS seats to 128,875.

The earlier figure of 128,925 has been reduced by 50 after the commission identified calculation errors in its previous update.

According to the updated data, 11,350 new seats have been added across medical colleges, including AIIMS and JIPMER, for the 2025–26 academic session.

The earlier list had mistakenly shown an addition of 11,400 seats, resulting in a mismatch of 100.

The NMC explained that this discrepancy was due to typographical errors while updating figures for the Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Gujarat and the newly established Viraat Ramayan Institute of Medical Sciences.

“The figures have now been fixed,” the commission said.

The regulator also confirmed that about 456 seats were reduced during the renewal process for the upcoming academic year.

Students who were not allotted seats in the previous NEET UG counseling rounds will get another opportunity during the stray round.

Registration for the round will open on Nov 4, and participating institutions are expected to release their tentative seat lists soon.

Applicants must report to their allotted colleges with all required documents to secure admission.

The NMC has warned that failure to join the allotted seat will lead to loss of admission opportunity, a one-year bar from appearing in NEET, and forfeiture of counseling fees.

With medical admissions remaining highly competitive, even minor adjustments in seat availability can significantly affect thousands of candidates.

The revised numbers are expected to help students plan better as the stray round begins.
