A 21-year-old NEET aspirant died by suicide at a hostel in Kanpur’s Rawatpur area on November 7, leaving behind a note that expressed deep remorse and a sense of crushing pressure.

The student, identified as Mohammad Aan from Rampur, had shifted to the hostel only four days earlier to prepare for the medical entrance examination. According to officials, Aan’s roommate, Imdad Hasan, had invited him to join afternoon prayers but Aan declined. When Hasan returned, he found the room locked from inside and, after receiving no response, alerted the police.

Officers forced the door open and discovered Aan hanging from a ceiling fan. A handwritten suicide note was recovered near the body. “Mom and Dad, please forgive me. I am very stressed. I will not be able to fulfill your dreams. I am taking my own life. I am responsible for this,” the note stated.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem and informed the family. The incident has once again underscored the intense pressure faced by medical aspirants across the country.
