The NBEMS informed the Supreme Court that conducting NEET-PG 2025 before August 3 is unfeasible due to the need for additional centers, staff, and logistical arrangements.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG) will not be held before August 3, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) informed the Supreme Court.
The entrance test for postgraduate and super-specialty medical courses, originally scheduled for June 15, was postponed after the court directed that it be conducted in a single shift instead of two.
In an affidavit submitted to the apex court, the NBEMS said the earliest possible date for the exam is Aug 3, citing logistical challenges and the need to arrange additional infrastructure.
The board said the delay was necessary to organize extra exam centers, deploy invigilators, and ensure sufficient support staff.
It also cited input from its technical partner, Tata Consultancy Services, which handles the computer-based format of the exam.
According to NBEMS, over 1,000 exam centers across 250 cities will be needed, along with nearly 60,000 personnel, including venue officers, system operators, invigilators, security guards, lab managers, registration staff, and electricians.
“NEET PG, being a high-stakes and flagship exam in the country, attempts to do malpractice are a major challenge to be addressed, which will require all law enforcement agencies to come together and join hands,” the board said.
It also noted that additional steps, such as allowing students to choose their exam centers, would need to be implemented as part of the updated exam schedule.
