The NCERT is striving to deliver school books on schedule, with approximately 33 lakh books for Classes 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, and 12 already printed and distributed to bookstores.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has announced that it will launch textbooks for Classes 3 and 6, based on the new syllabus, in April and May respectively. The Council has urged parents and students to remain patient and not to worry.
This decision to release the textbooks in the coming months follows a directive from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) last week, instructing all affiliated schools to adopt the new syllabi and textbooks for Classes 3 and 6 from the 2024-25 academic year.
The NCERT has also stated that it is committed to ensuring the timely provision of school books. So far, about 33 lakh books for Classes 1, 2, 7, 8, 10, and 12 have been printed and made available in bookshops. The Council further added that while books for Classes 3, 4, 5, 9, and 11 will hit the market this month, the Class 6 books will be available in May.
The decision to release the books for Classes 3 and 6 under the new syllabus was taken by the NCERT, as Class 3 signifies the commencement of the preparatory stage and Class 6 marks the onset of the middle stages. These classes required an overhaul to align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE).
To facilitate a smooth transition to the new syllabus, the NCERT has also prepared a "bridge programme" for Class 6 and "brief guidelines" for Class 3. These resources are intended for schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
