The agreement provides for installation of an X-band Doppler radar at Dimapur College, promoting academic research, capacity building, and improved state-specific weather monitoring over a 20 year period.

Nagaland has entered into a long-term partnership with the India Meteorological Department to advance weather forecasting capabilities and atmospheric research in the state.
The Department of Higher Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IMD at the Directorate of Higher Education in Kohima. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along and senior officials from both institutions.

As part of the arrangement, an X Band Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar will be set up at Dimapur Government College under the central government’s Mission Mausam initiative. The radar installation is expected to enhance real-time weather monitoring and data collection in the region.
Officials said the collaboration will encourage academic interaction, joint research efforts, and capacity building in meteorological and atmospheric sciences. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening institutional linkages between IMD and the state’s higher education network.
The partnership is expected to deepen scientific understanding of weather patterns and hazards specific to Nagaland, leading to more reliable and timely operational forecasts.
The MoU will be in effect for a period of 20 years.
