MPSC postpones three major exams, orders re-evaluation of 2025 mains

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has postponed three major examinations scheduled to begin in October, providing temporary relief to thousands of aspirants while adding further uncertainty to an already delayed examination cycle.

The commission has deferred the Maharashtra State Services Main Examination 2026, the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026 and the Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination 2026. The examinations were scheduled to commence from October 3, 2026.

The MPSC said revised dates for all three examinations would be announced separately.

Candidates' representations prompt decision

The decision followed representations from candidates, parents, student organisations and elected representatives seeking postponement of the State Services Main Examination 2026.

After considering the requests, the commission decided to defer not only the State Services Mains but also the Civil Engineering and Group-B Mains.

The development comes at a time when MPSC aspirants have been raising concerns over the commission's examination procedures. Protests have also been reported in connection with allegations of irregularities, including an alleged question paper leak in the Drug Inspector examination.

MPSC orders re-evaluation of 2025 answer sheets

In another significant move, the commission has ordered the re-evaluation of answer sheets from the Maharashtra State Services Main Examination 2025.

The decision follows objections raised by candidates and student organisations over the evaluation process. The commission has indicated that the re-evaluation exercise could further extend the examination timeline.

For candidates who appeared in the 2025 State Services Mains, the decision means another wait for clarity on their results and the subsequent stages of the recruitment process.

Committee reviewing MPSC examination system

The commission is also examining broader concerns surrounding its examination system.

A high-level committee headed by senior bureaucrat V Radha has been reviewing the existing system. The committee has interacted with candidates and other stakeholders and examined examination practices followed by other institutions.

The panel is expected to submit recommendations aimed at improving the examination system.

What MPSC aspirants need to know

For aspirants preparing for the State Services Mains 2026, Civil Engineering Mains 2026 and Group-B Mains 2026, the immediate priority is to await the commission's revised schedule.

No fresh dates have been announced so far.

Candidates awaiting the outcome of the 2025 State Services Mains will also have to wait for the re-evaluation process to conclude. The latest decisions could therefore have a wider impact on the timelines of both current aspirants and candidates already part of the recruitment cycle.
