The state is training skilled workforce through MSSU as a gems and jewelry park comes up in Navi Mumbai to boost exports and employment in the industry.
The Maharashtra government will introduce certificate courses in the gems and jewelry sector through the Maharashtra State Skills University (MSSU), Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sept 16.
Speaking at the inauguration of a gems and jewelry exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, Fadnavis said the sector has the potential to position India as a global leader.
"The park will provide facilities to professionals and exporters, enabling a boost in exports. The government is committed to making this sector more employment-oriented in collaboration with the Gems and Jewellery Association," he said.
He added that the planned certificate courses will help develop skilled manpower and support sustained industry growth.
A state-of-the-art Gems and Jewellery Park is also being developed at Mahape in Navi Mumbai to further boost exports and provide infrastructure for businesses.
"India already has a strong global presence in this field, and the government will align its policies to strengthen this further," the chief minister said, emphasizing the heritage and international demand for Indian jewelry.
Fadnavis also highlighted the state’s efforts to improve the business climate.
"An 'Ease of Doing Business War Room' has also been set up in Mantralaya to monitor reforms and their implementation. The government is committed to creating an industry-friendly environment in Maharashtra," he said.
He pointed out that licensing, land acquisition, and other industrial processes have been simplified as part of broader industry-focused reforms.
