The chapter will include excesses and repression experienced during the Emergency period of 1975-77, imprisonment of opposition leaders along with the resistance they showed against the authoritarian measures.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that a new chapter with details of Emergency during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will be included in the school curriculum in the state.
While addressing the conference of the state unit of MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) prisoners association to mark the 49th anniversary of the 1975 Emergency at his residence on June 26, Yadav said that a chapter discussing the ‘dark period of emergency’ would be included in the studies in the schools aiming to make the present generation aware of the excesses done during the period.
The chapter will include excesses and repression experienced during the Emergency period of 1975-77, imprisonment of opposition leaders along with the resistance they showed against the authoritarian measures.
“The present generation must know about the excesses such as imprisonment of Opposition leaders, media persons and even the common people, done during the emergency in the country. Hence, a subject titled ‘dark period of emergency’ will be part of studies in the school”, he said.
Earlier, the CM had announced that teachings of Hindu gods Ram and Krishna will also be included in the school and college curriculum of the state.
