Courses in generative AI, agentic systems, and AI-native software engineering target working professionals, focusing on real-world applications, industry alignment, and flexible live online learning formats across disciplines.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur is expanding its presence in online education with the introduction of four executive programs centered on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and technology leadership.
Designed for working professionals, the initiative represents a significant step in the institute’s Platinum Jubilee plans to formalize its online executive learning offerings.

The newly introduced courses include executive post-graduate certificate programs in Generative AI and Agentic AI, AI-Native Software Engineering, and Applied AI and Machine Learning, along with an Executive Programme in Technology and AI Leadership.
These programs will be delivered by multiple academic divisions, including the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Department of AI, and the Partha Ghosh School of Leadership.
According to the institute, the curriculum emphasizes hands-on applications of AI technologies, covering areas such as large language models (LLMs), generative AI systems, and agent-based frameworks.
It added that the course structure is aligned with industry demands, prioritizing real-world implementation and system design over purely theoretical approaches.
The application process for the online executive programs follows a step-by-step format tailored for professionals:
Step 1: Visit the official website for IIT Kharagpur online programs at online.iitkgp.ac.in to begin the application.
Step 2: Review the list of available courses, including Generative AI, Applied AI and Machine Learning, or AI Leadership, and select the ‘apply’ option for the preferred program.
Step 3: Register using a valid email ID and complete the application form with details such as academic background and work experience. Full payment is not required at this stage.
Step 4: Once submitted, applications are evaluated by the program team or faculty. Shortlisted candidates are notified via email and may receive an admission offer.
Step 5: Candidates who are selected must pay a seat-blocking fee to confirm enrollment, followed by document submission and payment of the remaining fees within the specified deadline.
All programs will be conducted through live online sessions led by IIT Kharagpur faculty, enabling remote access to academic instruction.
The courses are open to software engineers, machine learning professionals, and individuals in technology or business roles with relevant experience in digital systems.
The institute also indicated that more online programs could be introduced in the coming months as part of a phased rollout.
