The third phase of infrastructure development at IIT Indore, involving an investment of ₹624.57 crore, aims to enhance academic and residential facilities, fostering growth and innovation.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore is set to undergo a significant expansion under the third phase of its infrastructure development plan.
The project, estimated at ₹624.57 crore, was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Odisha. The ceremony was attended by Odisha Governor Kambhampti Hari Babu, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi, and Madhya Pradesh Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat.
This expansion, approved by the Higher Education Funding Agency, includes the construction of an academic pod, a lecture hall complex, an industrial research park, a design department, a residential complex, a student activity centre, and a visitor's hostel. The development aims to enhance the institute's facilities and capacity, supporting its growth and fostering innovation.
Minister Silawat highlighted the significance of the expansion, noting that IIT Indore has made commendable contributions to water conservation, including mapping over 1,000 kilometers of the Narmada basin and developing nine water conservation units on its campus.
These initiatives align with the institute's commitment to environmental sustainability.
The expansion is expected to bolster IIT Indore's position as a leading institution in higher education and research, contributing to the development of Madhya Pradesh and the nation.
IIT Indore, established in 2009, currently hosts around 1,700 undergraduates and 1,000 post-graduates and researchers. Earlier phases added core laboratories and the central library; the new works are scheduled for completion within five years.
