In response to claims that only a significant portion of its students remain unplaced, IIT Bombay has issued a clarification. Contrary to the reported 30%, the institute confirms that a mere 6.1% of its recent graduates are still seeking employment.
The institute disclosed the findings from a survey conducted among the 2022-23 graduating class. A Post on X (formerly twitter) update from the institute addressed the misinformation: “Lately there has been news that over 30% of IITB students do not get jobs! An exit survey among graduating students in 2022-23 says only 6.1% are still looking for jobs. Here is the survey result for you to decide..."
According to the survey's pie chart, 57.1% of the students secured placements through IIT Bombay's campus recruitment, while 12.2% chose to pursue further education. Additionally, 10.3% found employment independently, and 8.3% are exploring opportunities in public service. The survey also notes that 4.3% are undecided about their career paths, and 1.6% are aspiring entrepreneurs.
The survey further breaks down the placement data by gender, revealing that 58.8% of female students and 56.7% of male students have been placed. It also highlights that 8.1% of female students and 5.6% of male students are actively looking for jobs.
Addressing similar concerns, IIT Madras reassured that their placement process is in progress. The institution acknowledged the diverse aspirations of its students, ranging from higher education and entrepreneurship to competitive examinations. IIT Madras anticipates releasing comprehensive placement data after the convocation in July 2024.
