IIT BHU has partnered with Saras AI Institute to bridge the AI education gap, offering innovative courses, certifications, and joint research opportunities to empower students across disciplines in India’s digital transformation.
In a major leap towards establishing India as a global leader in artificial intelligence, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), BHU, has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saras AI Institute, the world’s first AI-exclusive, 100% online degree-granting higher education institution based in the United States.
This collaboration aims to address the critical gap between industry demands and education in AI, empowering India's future innovators and supporting the nation’s Vision 2047 for a developed Bharat.
The MoU, signed by IIT-BHU Director Prof Amit Patra and Saras AI Institute's COO and Co-Founder Amit Kataria, establishes a partnership focused on delivering an applied, hands-on AI curriculum rather than purely theoretical knowledge.
Prof Patra emphasized the importance of preparing students for the technological advancements that will shape India's future.
“Our partnership with Saras represents a key step in integrating cutting-edge AI education into various disciplines, ensuring every student is prepared to make significant contributions to India’s digital and economic evolution,” he said.
Saras AI Institute Founder and President, Anil Singh, added that the collaboration goes beyond teaching AI.
"It’s about equipping every student, across every field, with the necessary tools to shape India's future in the AI era," he said.
Shailesh Kumar, Chief Student Success Officer of Saras, shared that the MoU will allow IIT-BHU students to enroll in the institute's foundational 8-week course, Powers of AI, as an open elective.
This course will be available to all undergraduates, regardless of their major, ensuring the transformative power of AI reaches students in engineering, humanities, and other disciplines.
In alignment with its vision, the partnership will also lead to the co-development of the ‘AI Evaluator,’ an advanced AI-powered tool designed for real-time tracking of student progress, deep learning insights, and simplified evaluations—key to scaling quality education as India rapidly digitizes.
Additionally, the MoU outlines plans for flexible learning pathways, including an online Minor in AI, Associate Degree programs, and industry-recognized AI certifications through Saras AI Institute's digital platform.
Joint research, guest lectures, AI hackathons, workshops, and participation in IIT-BHU's academic and industry events are also part of the collaboration.
This partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing AI education and its integration into various academic disciplines across India.
