Chief Minister Rekha Gupta praised the newly passed Delhi School Education Bill as a historic measure to shield parents from unchecked fees while restoring fairness and trust in private education.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed the passage of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, calling it a landmark step toward protecting parents’ interests and improving education equity in the capital.
She reaffirmed the Delhi government’s commitment to ensuring accessible and accountable private school education for all children.
Gupta highlighted that the Bill extends fee regulation to all 1,733 private unaided schools in Delhi, including the nearly 300 institutions on concessional land from the Delhi Development Authority.
She described the law as a historic promise that the education system will no longer serve profit motives but will prioritize students’ futures.
Under the new legislation, the Directorate of Education is empowered with authorities comparable to a Sub-Divisional Magistrate — able to freeze accounts or seize assets in cases of fee violations. Unauthorized hikes can attract hefty fines ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
Gupta also criticized the previous AAP administration, claiming their so-called “education revolution” left the system mired in corruption, teacher vacancies, and unfinished school buildings.
She stressed that this new law restores integrity and public confidence in the education sector.
The Delhi CM further emphasizied, “Education cannot be allowed to become a means of profiteering”, signaling the government’s intent to place children's needs above financial interests.
