IIM Nagpur launches case research center to boost India-focused management studies

The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur has inaugurated its Case Research Centre, a new facility aimed at enhancing management education by developing case studies rooted in Indian businesses, start-ups, government projects, and social organizations.

The initiative is designed to make learning more practical and relevant to India’s dynamic economic and social environment.

"With this launch, IIM Nagpur became the fourth IIM in the country, after IIM Ahmedabad, Calcutta, and Bangalore, to establish a dedicated Case Research Centre. IIM-N has collaborated with Ivey Publishing, the world's second-largest producer of management case studies, for this center," a press release stated.

The inauguration was attended by Prof Bhimaraya Metri, director of IIM Nagpur; Violetta Gallagher, director of product and publishing at Ivey Publishing; Alejandro Garcia, associate director of business development at Ivey Publishing; and Prof Rakesh Gupta, chairperson of the Case Research Centre.

Gallagher described the new facility as a ‘story engine’ capable of capturing the unique narratives emerging from India’s business landscape.

"We're opening new pathways for collaboration, storytelling, and impact in India, at Ivey, and around the world," she said.

Prof Metri emphasized the center’s strategic significance, noting, “Many global universities are opening campuses here, and this Case Research Centre is going to be a milestone in that context.”

The center has already formed partnerships with nine leading business schools across India as member business schools.

These institutions will benefit from hands-on support in case writing, participation in case writing and teaching workshops organized by IIM Nagpur, and access to other activities conducted by the center.

Alejandro Garcia highlighted the global reach of the initiative, saying, “IIM Nagpur and Ivey, along with other partners, can co-create cases that travel between classrooms in India, Canada, and the world, sparking conversations that cross borders and disciplines.”

Prof Rakesh Gupta added, "The center is a national academic resource being built in Nagpur," underscoring its role as a hub for management research and education in India.
