Candidates seeking admission to IIM Calcutta's MBA program must have a valid CAT score and meet educational qualifications, including a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the minimum qualification is 45% or an equivalent CGPA.
The admissions guidelines for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program for 2025–2027 have been released by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta.
In addition to meeting certain other requirements, candidates must have a valid Common Admission Test (CAT) score.
Here are the details of the requirements and selection procedure for 2025 MBA admission to IIM Calcutta.
Candidates must meet the requirements for admission to IIM Calcutta's MBA program, which include having a valid Common Admission Test (CAT) score.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree with at least 50% or an equivalent CGPA. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the minimum qualification is 45% or an equivalent CGPA.
Candidates with a dual degree or integrated master's degree will be assessed based on marks equivalent to a bachelor's degree.
If the institute does not issue separate marks for UG and PG levels in a dual degree, PG scores will be considered UG marks.
Candidates in their last year of undergraduate study or those who have finished their degree requirements but are awaiting results are also eligible to apply, as long as they submit a certificate certifying completion before June 30, 2025.
Additionally, candidates who have not yet completed their integrated master's or dual degree programs will have their aggregate percentage of marks up to Aug 3 considered.
Candidates who graduated in 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023 from universities that did not conduct exams or granted only pass marks must provide a certificate from the principal or registrar certifying this.
Finally, candidates who have not received their graduation results by the deadline for registration must provide original diplomas and mark sheets by Dec 31, 2025.
The selection procedure will have two stages. In the first stage, IIM Calcutta will shortlist candidates based on their minimal percentiles in CAT 2024, both section-wise and overall.
The minimum CAT percentile requirements for Stage I vary by category. For the Open category, candidates must achieve a minimum percentile of 80 in VARC and DILR, 75 in QA, and an overall percentile of 85.
The EWS, NC-OBC, and SC categories have slightly lower thresholds, with the minimum percentiles set at 75 in VARC and 65 in DILR and QA, and an overall percentile of 75 for EWS and NC-OBC.
For SC, minimum percentiles are set at 65 in VARC and 60 in DILR and QA, with an overall percentile of 70. Candidates in the ST category need a minimum percentile of 55 in all sections and an overall percentile of 65.
For PwD candidates, the minimum percentiles are 45 in each section and an overall percentile of 55.
According to IIM Calcutta, the actual section-wise and overall percentile cut-offs may be substantially higher than the above minimum percentiles, depending on the number of candidates invited for a personal interview (PI).
Following this stage, IIM Calcutta will shortlist candidates for the personal interview and written ability exam using a weighted scoring system based on a variety of factors.
The weight distribution is as follows: 56% for the CAT 2024 score, 10% for Class 10 marks, 15% for Class 12 marks, and an additional 4% for gender diversity, which includes female and transgender candidates.
This strategy ensures that applicants are evaluated holistically, taking into account not only academic performance but also other criteria such as gender diversity.
Following the Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT) stages, IIM Calcutta will calculate a composite score for ultimate admission to the MBA program.
The parameters and weights for this final selection process are as follows: 30% for the CAT 2024 score, 48% for the PI, and 8% for the WAT.
Candidates can also earn up to 6% for academic diversity at the bachelor's and master's levels, with a focus on non-engineering degrees and professional qualifications.
Work experience will also contribute 8% to the final score, stressing the significance of practical experience in the selection process.
According to IIM Calcutta, each category's merit will determine the final selection list.
