Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, acting on behalf of multiple opposition parties, has been allotted a 12 PM meeting slot with the ECI to formally discuss electoral fraud concerns, with strict visitor limits imposed for security reasons.

In a significant move amid rising political tensions, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has agreed to meet with Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, who is representing “certain political parties” at 12:00 pm on Aug 11 to address alleged electoral malpractices. The Commission has formally communicated this via a letter to Ramesh, confirming the appointment.
Due to security and space constraints, the ECI has requested advance information, a list of up to 30 attendees along with their vehicle numbers to manage the logistics.

Details on the agenda for the interaction have not been disclosed yet.
This meeting follows growing pressure from the INDIA alliance, where Congress and allied parties have surged allegations of electoral fraud.
In protest, opposition MPs plan a march from Parliament to the ECI headquarters, seeking direct engagement with the commission over concerns such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, an exercise that critics say facilitated “vote theft.”
Further intensifying the demand for ECI accountability, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, launched a website named “Vote Chori,” urging the public release of digital voter rolls to ensure transparency and ward off alleged manipulation.
Meanwhile, former Union Minister P Chidambaram criticized the ECI’s reluctance to hear certain electoral complaints, calling such behavior a “death of democracy.”
He emphasized that the ECI is not a court, and its refusal to openly engage with grievances erodes public trust.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded sharply to the mounting backlash, urging Rahul Gandhi to prove his claims through an affidavit.
The BJP asserted that if Gandhi truly distrusts the ECI, he should request disqualification — calling his current stance irresponsible.
This interaction represents a crucial moment for India's electoral system. The ECI’s preparedness to meet with opposition representatives and Parliament is being closely watched.
Observers view it as a test of institutional responsiveness during a period charged with allegations about electoral integrity.
