The board’s action follows inspections revealing use of unapproved textbooks, reinforcing curriculum compliance, transparency, and quality standards as the state pushes broader education reforms and CBSE alignment.

The Himachal Pradesh School Education Board has taken strict action against private schools that failed to follow official curriculum guidelines, canceling the recognition of 294 institutions across the state.
The decision came after an investigation revealed that these schools were using textbooks from private publishers instead of the board-approved books.

“All recognized institutions are legally required to use only textbooks prescribed by the board,” the authority said.
Currently, the board recognizes around 1,400 private schools teaching Classes 9 to 12.
During a recent inspection, schools were asked to submit purchase bills for the textbooks provided to students.
The review found that 294 schools had procured books from unapproved sources.
The board said the measure reinforces its commitment to transparency, uniformity, and quality standards in school education.
“Failure to follow the curriculum amounts to a violation of the affiliation agreement,” it added.
This action is part of broader education reforms introduced by the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government.
Over the past three years, more than 1,500 schools have been closed due to low student enrollment, many of which were established under the previous administration.
In another major initiative, the state government has announced plans to bring 100 schools under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to align with national standards and enhance academic outcomes.
The recent crackdown highlights the state’s determination to ensure that all educational institutions, whether government-run or private, maintain discipline and deliver quality education according to board norms.
