Himachal lifts temporary suspension for 292 school affiliations

The temporary suspension of affiliation for 292 institutions by the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board has been lifted, Education Minister Rohit Thakur informed the state Assembly on Nov 27.

He clarified that the Board has not revoked the affiliation of any school.

Responding to a question from BJP MLA Rakesh Jamwal, Thakur said the suspension occurred due to incomplete formalities, which have now been fulfilled.

He added that the process to affiliate around 100 senior government secondary schools with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been initiated.

Thakur also announced plans to develop Himachal Pradesh Board-affiliated schools as centers of excellence.

He highlighted the establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools, aimed at creating a student-focused, quality-driven system that will enhance school education across the state.

“This system will enable the Board to strive to become more competitive and better,” he said.

The Education Minister reassured that the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board will continue to function independently.

He added that the presence of CBSE-affiliated government schools will help regulate the private school sector.

Students in these schools will continue to receive free uniforms, books, and other facilities as before.

Thakur noted that the CBSE curriculum follows guidelines set by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), as does the curriculum of the Himachal Pradesh Board of Education.
