Glitches, crashes, failed payments: CBSE portal troubles refuse to end

CBSE’s post-result services portal continued to draw complaints from students and parents as technical problems disrupted applications for scanned copies of Class 12 answer books, despite the board claiming the system was functioning smoothly.

The online facility, which opened on May 19, has faced repeated reports of login failures, payment issues, missing application links, and slow response times.

In response to the disruptions, the Central Board of Secondary Education extended the deadline for applying for scanned copies from May 22 to May 23.

Students across the country took to social media alleging that the portal frequently displayed messages such as “failed to connect,” “site can't be reached,” “site under maintenance,” and “will be available soon.”

Several users also claimed that payments were deducted from their bank accounts while applications remained incomplete.

Reacting to CBSE’s updates on X, many users expressed frustration over repeated crashes and unresolved technical issues.

One user wrote, “Sorry, but not at all working, trying to pay from yesterday and still not succeeded, and now option itself is missing to login to the application page.”

Another said, “The portal is still not working. The link for making payment to collect scanned copies has been pulled off and it's not visible anymore. What can be done now? You all can't even manage a simple payment gateway issue!!”

A third user flagged broader concerns, stating, “Do you seriously think parents are fools, CBSE? Thousands of students and parents are struggling while your portal keeps crashing... first NEET paper leak, and now this.”

Another post read, “Do you know the meaning of 'functioning smoothly'? Website not functional. Payment gateway not working... Serious doubts.”

CBSE earlier acknowledged the technical glitches and said experts were working to restore the portal. In a statement issued late on May 20 evening, the board maintained that the system had stabilized and applications were being submitted successfully.

“The online application portal for obtaining scanned copies of Class XII answer books is now functioning smoothly, and applications are being submitted successfully,” CBSE said.

The board added that 127,146 applications for 387,399 scanned answer books had been submitted successfully by 7:30 pm on May 20, within three hours of the portal reopening.

However, complaints continued even after the announcement. Some students alleged that the portal remained stuck at the “Preview & Confirmation” stage, while others reported failed transaction updates despite successful payments.

A student on X wrote, “What is happening? Paid ₹300 four times but got rejected. I paid ₹3, and it got accepted. I still have not received my ₹1,200 refund.”

Another student, Aditya Sharma, posted, “I made the payment 17 hours ago and the fee was deducted, but it is still showing payment not successful.”

Social media user Pradeep Bagry also complained that the portal was not progressing beyond the confirmation stage despite repeated attempts since morning.

Apart from payment-related concerns, several users questioned the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Some students shared screenshots of allegedly blurred scanned answer sheets and raised concerns about the clarity of digital evaluation.

As complaints mounted after the portal launch on May 19, CBSE issued multiple notices guiding students on how to access the system.

During the troubleshooting process, the application link was temporarily removed from the board’s official website before being restored later.

In a notice issued on May 20, CBSE informed students that technical issues were being addressed and services were expected to resume by 2 pm. Even after that timeline, many users continued reporting crashes and incomplete applications.

Following the disruptions, the board extended the application deadline to May 23, citing the “technical problem encountered” on the post-verification portal.

Students can continue applying for scanned copies of evaluated answer books through the official portal.

As per CBSE’s revised schedule, applications for verification of marks and revaluation will begin on May 26 and continue till May 29.
