The Class 8 textbook focuses on puzzles, stories, and real-life applications to make math engaging while aligning with the NEP 2020 goals of skill-based, inclusive, and heritage-driven learning.
NCERT has released a new mathematics textbook for Class 8 titled “Ganit Prakash,” offering a refreshed learning approach aligned with the latest national education reforms. The book is now available on the NCERT web portal.
This launch is part of a broader curriculum update under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
Along with Ganit Prakash, ten new textbooks have been introduced for Classes 5 and 8 across multiple subjects.
Ganit Prakash promotes an interactive and application-based method of teaching. It includes stories, puzzles, and historical references to Indian mathematicians such as Aryabhata, Bhaskaracharya, and Ramanujan.
The aim is to help students relate math to real-life situations while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
NCERT described the book as “a resource not only for students but also for teachers and parents to create a joyful and meaningful learning environment.”
Other new Class 8 textbooks cover science, social science, English, Hindi, art, and vocational subjects.
These materials focus on inclusive, hands-on, and heritage-based learning, moving away from memorization and toward multidisciplinary and skill-focused education.
Another noticeable change is the use of Hindi titles written in Roman script. Ganit Prakash is part of this naming approach, which NCERT says highlights India’s cultural diversity and knowledge traditions. Some states have raised concerns, but the council has stood by its decision.
“Titles like Ganit Prakash resonate across cultural traditions and reflect India’s mathematical contributions,” NCERT said.
The shift in textbook design and content aims to align learning more closely with India’s intellectual heritage while enhancing student engagement through activities and real-world context.
As the new materials are introduced in classrooms, NCERT plans to review feedback from educators, parents, and learners to make further improvements.
The success of Ganit Prakash and the other updated textbooks could influence how schools across India deliver subject content in the years to come.
