Teachers from 15 states have been chosen for their outstanding work in teaching, research, community service, and new ideas, based on categories created by the NEP 2020 reforms.
The Ministry of Education has announced the names of teachers selected for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025 in the Higher Education and Polytechnic categories.
A total of 21 faculty members from across the country have been chosen for their contributions to teaching, research, and outreach.
The awards were expanded in 2023 to include these two categories as part of the reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
As per the list released by the Press Information Bureau, Karnataka leads with three awardees, followed by two each from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
One teacher each has been selected from Punjab, Arunachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.
The Higher Education Institutions category is divided into three groups: Engineering and Technology; Architecture; Pure Sciences such as Mathematics, Physical, Biological, and Chemical Sciences, Medicine, and Pharmacy; and Arts and Social Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Legal Studies, Commerce, and Management.
The Polytechnic category has 10 awards in total.
The ministry said that the selection process takes into account teaching-learning effectiveness, outreach activities, research and innovation, sponsored research, faculty development programs, and consultancy.
Of these, learning effectiveness and outreach hold the highest weightage.
