Delhi University opens admissions for first-ever one-year PG programmes, total seats rise to 14,600

Delhi University (DU) has opened admissions for its first-ever one-year postgraduate (PG) programmes for the 2026–27 academic session, marking a significant step in the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Alongside the new programmes, the university has also commenced admissions to its regular two-year postgraduate courses, taking the total number of PG seats on offer to around 14,600.

The one-year master's programmes are designed exclusively for students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree under Delhi University's Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022.

Admissions are merit-based and will be conducted through the university's Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-PG), with applications closing on July 11.

The introduction of one-year PG courses aligns with the NEP's recommendation of flexible postgraduate pathways. Under the policy, students graduating from a four-year bachelor's programme with adequate academic credits can directly pursue a one-year master's degree, reducing the overall duration of higher education without compromising academic standards.

According to the university, 46 one-year postgraduate programmes have been introduced across disciplines, including MA in Arabic, Bengali and other languages, MCom, and MSc in Biochemistry, among others.

The addition of these courses has increased DU's postgraduate intake by more than 1,100 seats. The existing two-year postgraduate programmes will continue to run simultaneously for students who are not eligible for the one-year route.

Admissions to all postgraduate programmes will continue to be based on CUET (PG) 2026 scores, and candidates must complete the CSAS-PG registration process to be considered for seat allocation. The university has advised applicants to carefully check programme-specific eligibility criteria before submitting their applications.

The launch of the one-year master's programmes marks one of the biggest academic reforms at Delhi University since the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme under NEP 2020.

With the first batch of UGCF students graduating this year, the university expects the new postgraduate pathway to offer greater academic flexibility and align Indian higher education with international degree structures.
