The state government launched a large-scale plan to revamp school sports infrastructure, introduce professional coaching, and offer major cash incentives to nurture young athletes and strengthen the city’s sporting culture.

Delhi is set to witness a major boost in school sports infrastructure, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiling an ambitious plan to equip government schools with advanced sports facilities and professional training programs.
At a recent review meeting with Education Department officials, CM Gupta instructed the preparation of a detailed roadmap to implement the initiative across the city.

The goal, officials said, is to turn government schools into hubs for nurturing athletic talent from a young age.
The project will include the development of sports grounds, multipurpose auditoriums, and specialized coaching in sports such as cricket, boxing, taekwondo, football, and swimming.
Schools with sufficient open spaces will be converted into full-sized playing fields, while those in densely populated areas will get multipurpose halls or compact arenas.
Special focus will be given to rural and semi-urban schools to ensure equal access for students throughout Delhi.
To enhance the city’s sporting ecosystem, the government plans to collaborate with reputed sports academies.
Memorandums of Understanding will enable these academies to use school facilities and offer structured coaching programs with administrative assistance from the government.
Authorities are also evaluating the possibility of constructing swimming pools in select schools to encourage aquatic sports.
The initiative also includes financial rewards to motivate high-performing athletes. Olympic gold medalists will receive ₹7 crore, silver medalists ₹5 crore, and bronze medalists ₹3 crore.
Promising young sportspersons will be provided with additional monetary support and government job opportunities to help them sustain their training and careers.

CM Gupta emphasized that the project will move forward on a fast-track basis, with adequate funds allocated for both infrastructure and coaching development.
She reiterated her government’s commitment to building an inclusive sports culture where every child in Delhi has the opportunity to excel.
“The vision is to help every student step onto the field with confidence and pride,” she said, adding that the initiative marks a significant step toward transforming Delhi’s schools into future breeding grounds for sports excellence.
