Delhi Technological University unveils expansion plans aligned with NEP 2020

Delhi Technological University (DTU) has unveiled a series of new initiatives aimed at strengthening research, expanding access to digital education, and fostering international collaborations.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aligns with these measures, transforming DTU into a hub of inclusive, future-oriented learning.

At a recent press conference, DTU Vice-Chancellor Prateek Sharma announced the establishment of a research park at the university’s Narela campus, along with other strategic developments.

“Knowledge is the basic goal of our university. We are starting a computer literacy initiative in five villages to promote digital inclusion,” Sharma said.

As part of its international outreach, DTU has signed memorandums of understanding with the University of Houston in the United States for student exchange programs and with the South Asian University (SAU) to deepen regional academic collaboration.

To meet evolving industry and academic demands, DTU has introduced three new undergraduate BTech programs in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.

In addition, a new Interdisciplinary Department of Geospatial Science and Technology has been launched.

“The very spirit of NEP is to design an individual-specific syllabus. We are also reaching out to industries to bridge the gap between teaching and real-world demands,” Sharma said.

The university has also set up a cutting-edge laboratory to support research and development in partnership with industrial stakeholders.

On the accessibility front, DTU is expanding its online education platform, which now offers certificate courses lasting from one week to several months.

“Why should quality education be available only to those who crack entrance exams? Many students face barriers beyond their control. We aim to reach the masses,” Sharma said.

DTU is playing an active role in environmental projects as well. Its Environmental Sciences department is contributing to the Delhi government’s Yamuna rejuvenation plan and the New Delhi Municipal Council’s (NDMC) flood mitigation project at ITO.

The university has also submitted a proposal to the lieutenant governor’s office to collaborate on pollution control measures.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, DTU will establish a dedicated center to evaluate safety in road tunnels exceeding 1.5 kilometers in length.
