Delhi HC refuses NSUI plea to reopen CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation portal

The Delhi High Court on June 12 refused to issue any immediate direction to reopen the CBSE portal for verification and re-evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets while hearing a public interest litigation filed by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) against the board's Online Service Mechanism (OSM).

A vacation bench comprising Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Madhu Jain declined to grant interim relief and directed that the matter be placed before the roster bench for further proceedings.

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that reopening the portal at this stage could disrupt the post-result process for a large number of candidates.

He submitted that nearly 17.8 lakh students had appeared for the examinations and that extending or reopening the application window could affect timelines linked to result-related procedures.

Taking note of the submission, the court observed, "Let individual students come. We do not want results to be delayed."

The petition comes amid demands from students seeking an extension of the deadline for verification and re-evaluation applications after the portal was closed.

Several candidates had posted on social media alleging difficulties in accessing the system during the application period.

CBSE had earlier clarified on June 8 that the verification and re-evaluation portal remained operational throughout the notified window from June 2 to June 7, 2026.

The board said the platform functioned under the supervision of government technical agencies and teams from IITs.

Despite the clarification, students continued to raise concerns online, claiming they encountered login problems and access issues.

Some alleged that the portal displayed a "Roll Number Not Found" message, while others reported that the website failed to load properly during the application period.

Rejecting allegations of technical failure, CBSE said the process saw substantial participation, with more than 1.6 lakh candidates submitting requests covering over 3.8 lakh answer books.

"The system remained under continuous monitoring by dedicated cyber security teams throughout the operational period to prevent malicious traffic and cyber threats," CBSE said in its clarification.

The board added that support teams were available through its helpdesk and grievance redressal channels to assist students during the application process.

On complaints related to the "Roll Number Not Found" message, CBSE said the notification appeared when candidates had not completed the first stage of the post-result process, which involved applying for scanned copies of answer books.

"As clearly outlined earlier, only those candidates who had applied for their scanned answer books during the preceding stage (Answer Books Photocopy) were eligible to avail the subsequent stage of Verification of Issues Observed and Re-evaluation of Answers," the board said.

CBSE reiterated that it remains committed to a transparent and student-focused post-result process and said genuine concerns continue to be addressed through its grievance redressal mechanisms, helpline services, and other communication channels.
