Delhi govt asks private schools to form fee regulation panels by Jan 10

The Delhi government has asked private unaided schools to set up a School Level Fee Regulation Committee by Jan 10, 2026, following the notification of the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Rules, 2025.

In a notification, the Directorate of Education said the committee will include a chairperson, the school principal, five parents, three teachers, and one representative from the Directorate.

Schools have been directed to constitute the committee within 15 days of the order and display the names of the chairperson and members on the school notice board and website.

“Every school should continue its SLFRC within 15 days from the date of issue of this order, strictly in accordance with the act and the rules. Schools need to upload on its notice board and website the names of the chairperson and members of the SLFRC,” said DoE Director Veditha Reddy.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the District Level Fee Appellate Committee will handle disputes related to school fees.

“The District Level Fee Appellate Committee (DLFRC) will adjudicate disputes related to school fees and decide on appeals, thereby providing parents with an institutional and impartial forum,” he said.

“The government is committed to ensuring that parents are not exploited under any circumstances, while schools are also provided with a clear and rule-based framework for smooth functioning,” Sood added.

According to the DoE, parents and teachers on the committee will be chosen through a public draw, with the date, time, and venue announced at least seven days in advance.

Parents of students admitted under the EWS, DG, and CWSN categories under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, will not be part of the selection process.

“To ensure wider participation, in cases where both parents or guardians of the student are selected, only the parent or guardian whose name is drawn first shall be included,” the DoE said.

For the 2025-26 academic session, the Directorate has issued a one-time operational timeline.

School management committees must submit the proposed fee structure to the SLFRC within 15 days of its formation, while the committee will have 30 days to approve or reject the proposal.
