During the ceremony at Daulat Ram College, CM Gupta reflected on her transformative student years, leadership journey, and the university's ongoing initiatives for education improvement.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized the government's focus on boosting education tourism and attracting international students to universities in the national capital.
She made these remarks during a special felicitation ceremony at her alma mater, Delhi University, where she was honored by Daulat Ram College.
As she reflected on her time as a student, Gupta acknowledged that the college had influenced her development as a leader.
She remembered joining the institution during a year-long strike in 1993, which prompted her to meet with leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU).
In her last year, she was elected president of DUSU as a result of this association, she said.
Reminiscent of her undergraduate activism, Gupta said, "I never imagined that one day I would be responsible for the very roads I once traveled on as a student," she said.
"I never thought that I would stand in the VC's office, where I once protested, and address a gathering from the stage," she added.
The occasion was presided over by DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, who promised that the university would collaborate closely with the Delhi government to improve education.
Congratulating Gupta, he expressed, "It is a matter of great pride that a DU student has risen to become the Chief Minister of Delhi. You have experienced DU in various roles— as a student, DUSU president, city councillor, and now, as the chief minister."
He also noted that her journey would serve as an inspiration to women students. Additionally, Singh highlighted DU's initiatives, such as seat reservations for single girl children and orphans.
