What does TALASH refer to?

TALASH (Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills, and Self-Esteem Hub) is an online platform aimed at assisting tribal students in their self-exploration, skill development, and vocational planning. This is the initial national-level effort dedicated entirely to the comprehensive development of tribal students.

In collaboration with UNICEF India, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) initiated this program.

Nodal Ministry: Government of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Goals of TALASH:

  • Encourage self-awareness and character growth in tribal students.
  • Facilitate knowledgeable career decisions through assessments based on aptitude.
  • Develop essential life skills like emotional awareness, effective communication, and sound decision-making.
  • Empower EMRS educators to successfully mentor and support students.

Main Attributes:

Psychometric Assessment:

According to the Tamanna framework by NCERT.

Evaluates student skills; creates tailored Career Cards.

Career Guidance Sections:

Advises students on career options that match their abilities.

Aligns interests, abilities, and aspirations to enhance decision-making.

Training in Life Skills and Self-Esteem:

Emphasizes confidence enhancement, conflict management, and emotional well-being.

Modules foster resilience and growth rooted in values.

Portal for Teacher Training:

189 educators from 75 EMRSs have been trained.

Facilitates capacity enhancement led by peers throughout schools.

Staged National Implementation:

Encompasses over 1.38 lakh students across 28 States and 8 UTs by the conclusion of 2025.

Facilitates seamless implementation via municipal pilot programs.

Importance:

  • Enables tribal youth with technology-focused individualized education.
  • Connects academic, emotional, and aspirational disparities in tribal education.
  • Directly corresponds with the NEP 2020 vision of comprehensive, inclusive education.

Connects students in isolated tribal areas via technological advancements.
