Fifth anniversary of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM). Let’s learn more about this mission

The Ministry of Textiles started the project with the intention of making India a world leader in technical textiles. Research, Innovation, and Development; Promotion and Market Development; Export Promotion; and Education, Training, and Skill Development are the four main pillars of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM).

Comprehending Technical Textiles

Technical textiles are goods and materials created mainly for their functional qualities and technical performance, not for their visual appeal. According to the infographic, these products are divided into twelve different groups.

Important Benefits of the Mission

  • Improving the Textile Industry: India is the world's sixth-largest exporter of textiles, accounting for almost 2% of its GDP.
  • Creating Robust Infrastructure: Among other applications, the use of geotextiles in road construction results in longer lifespans and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Promoting Export Growth: Technical textile exports are supported by the Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), which is now known as MATEXIL.
  • The creation of biodegradable technical textile materials, particularly for agro-textiles, geotextiles, and medical textiles, is one way to promote environmental sustainability.
  • Promoting Innovation: Encouraging improvements in comfort and functionality, as demonstrated by Mahina, the first bonded leak-proof period undergarment in India.

Other Important Projects under the NTTM Grant for Technical Textile Internship Support (GIST 2.0): The goal of this program is to link academia and industry. Grant for Research and Entrepreneurship for Future Technical Textile Innovators (GREAT) Plan: This program offers funds to assist in turning prototypes into technologies and goods that are ready for the market.
