Making India Better At Making Chips And Supply Chain

India is trying to make its semiconductor industry under the India Semiconductor Mission. This mission wants to make a semiconductor ecosystem in India reduce the need to import chips and make India better at technology.
Key Highlights:

One big part of this mission is to give money to people who make chips in India. The government is giving help production-linked incentives and infrastructure assistance to make people invest in semiconductor fabrication plants and assembly facilities. This help is given so that people can afford to make chips in India because it costs a lot of money and needs technology.
Another important thing is to make the semiconductor supply chain better. The semiconductor industry needs things like raw materials, machines, chip design, packaging and logistics. India is trying to make each part of this chain by investing in infrastructure, research and manufacturing.
The government also wants Indian companies to work with technology companies so that India can learn from them and be a part of the global semiconductor network. India is also trying to train people to work in the semiconductor industry by starting training programs and working with universities.
The government is changing some policies to make it easier for companies to do business in India to make the infrastructure better and to encourage ideas. All these things are helping the semiconductor sector in India to grow.
Significance:
It is very important for India to make its semiconductors so that it does not have to rely on other countries for chips. Now India gets most of its chips from other countries, which makes it vulnerable to problems in the global supply chain and politics.
If India can make its chips it will be better at technology and not rely on other countries. Semiconductors are needed for industries like electronics, phones, cars, defence and new technologies like artificial intelligence and 5G.
From an economic point of view the semiconductor sector can bring a lot of money to India create jobs and help industries grow. It also fits with Indias dream of becoming a manufacturing and technology hub.
India is trying to make its semiconductor ecosystem better because it wants to be strong and competitive, in technology. By giving incentives making the supply chain better and working with companies India is laying the foundation for a strong semiconductor industry that can stand on its own.
