Bilateral drills focus on air combat readiness, interoperability, and strategic coordination

India is hosting the India–Russia joint air force exercise AviaIndra-2025 in collaboration with the Russian Aerospace Forces, reaffirming the longstanding defence partnership between the two countries. The exercise is aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, operational coordination, and combat preparedness of the two air forces.
The drills focus on a range of advanced air combat operations, including air superiority missions, coordinated aerial manoeuvres, and joint tactical planning. By training together, both sides seek to improve interoperability, particularly in operating diverse aircraft platforms, command-and-control systems, and communication protocols under realistic combat scenarios.

AviaIndra-2025 also provides an opportunity for exchange of best practices in air warfare, maintenance, and operational planning. Such exercises help build trust and familiarity between the forces, which is critical for effective coordination during joint missions or humanitarian and disaster relief operations.
From a strategic perspective, the exercise reaffirms the depth of India–Russia defence ties, which span equipment procurement, joint production, training, and technology cooperation. Continued military engagement reflects both countries’ intent to maintain strong bilateral defence relations amid a changing global security environment.
Overall, AviaIndra-2025 strengthens aerial operational readiness and reinforces strategic cooperation, contributing to regional stability and showcasing India’s emphasis on defence diplomacy and military preparedness.
