Department of Fisheries and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) held a Technical Dialogue on Eco-Fishing Ports in New Delhi

Regarding Eco-Fishing Ports:

Inaugurated by: Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.

Goal: To create fishing harbours that are both environmentally sustainable and economically feasible, while minimizing ecological impact.

Main Characteristics:

Eco-Friendly Design Features: Incorporation of sustainable breakwaters, sewage treatment plants (STPs), rainwater collection, and renewable energy sources (solar/wind).

Intelligent Infrastructure: Application of IoT, sensor arrays, and forecasting models for immediate oversight and port activities.

Social Inclusivity: Promotes community involvement, women's empowerment, and local governance through collaborative management groups.

Post-Harvest Efficiency: Emphasize secure fish handling, refrigeration, and cleanliness to enhance seafood quality and export potential.

Climate Resilience: Involves the removal of marine debris, environmental regulations, and designs that adapt to climate for sustainable coastal development.

Concerning the Blue Ports Initiative:

Initiated by: Government of India in collaboration with FAO.

Beneath: Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Goal: To create fishing ports that incorporate blue economy concepts for enduring marine development.

Main Characteristics:

Three Test Ports: Vanakbara (Daman & Diu), Karaikal (Puducherry), and Jakhau (Gujarat).

Intelligent Technologies: Employment of AI, data analysis, and remote sensing for effective port administration.

Eco-Infrastructure: Focus on energy-saving lighting, electric devices, composting, and waste repurposing.

Value Chain Improvement: Enhances fish catching, processing, storage, and market connections to elevate coastal economies.

Global Cooperation: Fits with FAO’s Blue Growth initiative to utilize worldwide best practices in ocean preservation.
