The board will begin digital marking of Class 12 answer sheets in 2026 to speed up evaluation, reduce manual errors, and allow teachers to assess scripts remotely from their own schools.

CBSE will shift to digital evaluation for Class 12 board examinations from 2026, introducing on-screen marking for checking answer books while continuing physical evaluation for Class 10.
In an official communication to principals and heads of CBSE-affiliated schools, the board said the new system will apply only to Class 12 answer books in the 2026 examinations. Class 10 answer copies will continue to be evaluated in physical mode.

“In its continuous effort to enhance efficiency and transparency, the Board has decided to introduce On-Screen Marking (OSM) for the evaluation of Class 12 answer books beginning with the 2026 examinations. The evaluation of Class 10 answer books will continue in physical mode as before in 2026,” the notice said.
CBSE said the move is aimed at improving the speed and accuracy of evaluation. The digital system is expected to eliminate totaling errors, automate coordination, and reduce manual intervention.
It will also allow teachers to carry out evaluation duties from their own schools, limiting disruption to regular teaching and cutting transport time and costs.
The board added that post-result verification of marks will no longer be required under the OSM system, reducing manpower needs. Teachers from all CBSE-affiliated schools in India and abroad will be able to participate in the evaluation process.
To prepare for the rollout, CBSE has instructed schools to ensure basic infrastructure, including computer labs with a public static IP, systems running Windows 8 or higher with at least 4 GB RAM, updated browsers, Adobe Reader, stable internet connectivity of at least 2 Mbps, and an uninterrupted power supply.
CBSE said teachers with OASIS IDs will be allowed to access the system in advance to familiarize themselves with the process.
The board will also conduct dry runs, training programs, release instructional videos, and operate a call center to handle technical issues. Detailed stage-wise instructions will be issued separately.
