The new RBSE format will let Class 10 and 12 students appear for two annual exams, helping reduce exam pressure and offering a fair chance to improve marks.

Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, Rajasthan will revamp its school examination system to make it more flexible and less stressful for students.
The state will now hold board exams for Classes 10 and 12 twice a year, giving students a second opportunity to improve their results.

The announcement was made by Rajasthan’s School Education and Panchayati Raj Minister, Madan Dilawar, during a public event in Ganesh Nagar, Kota.
He confirmed that the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE), Ajmer, will implement this new format as part of a broader effort to modernize assessments.
Under the new structure, the first main board examination will be held between February and March.
Students who wish to enhance their performance will be allowed to appear for another exam scheduled for May–June.
Both exams will cover the entire syllabus, and no changes will be made to the existing curriculum or exam format.
Students who successfully clear the first exam may take the second one in up to three subjects to improve their marks.
Those who miss the main exam for valid medical reasons can also participate in the second round, provided they present a medical certificate or receive permission from the district education officer.
Students with supplementary results will have the same opportunity to appear in up to three subjects, including the ones in which they received supplementary status.
The examination fee will stay the same for both sessions.
RBSE will implement a “best of two attempts” rule, meaning the higher score from either attempt will count toward the final result.
According to Minister Dilawar, this system is designed to reduce exam-related anxiety and promote a more student-friendly evaluation process.
He added, “The dual-exam system will make assessments more student-friendly and less stressful.”
This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages flexible and progressive testing methods focused on overall student development.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also adopted a similar model, announcing that Class 10 board exams will be conducted twice a year.

CBSE students can take the second exam to improve their scores in up to three subjects, while those placed in the compartment category will have another opportunity during the second session to raise their marks.
RBSE is expected to release the 2026 exam schedule for Classes 10 and 12 soon, allowing schools and students to plan ahead.
This shift to a biannual examination system is being seen as a significant step toward reducing academic pressure, encouraging consistent learning, and aligning Rajasthan’s education standards with national benchmarks.
