Tawang witnessed a major boost for student scholarships and educational infrastructure as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated new academic and administrative blocks at Dorjee Khandu Government College.
During the event, Khandu announced a substantial increase in the Dorjee Khandu Merit Scholarship, which honors the late former chief minister Dorjee Khandu.

The scholarship amounts for the top three positions have been raised from ₹35,000, ₹23,000, and ₹15,000 to ₹5 lakh, ₹3 lakh, and ₹2 lakh, starting this academic year.
Khandu highlighted that the increased scholarship is aimed at promoting academic excellence among students across the state.
He also commended the college for its rapid growth since its founding in 2016 and acknowledged the efforts of Principal Dr Yeshi Gyetsen and the faculty for making it one of Arunachal Pradesh’s most disciplined and high-performing institutions.
The chief minister dedicated the newly built facilities to the students and staff, emphasizing that they support the state’s implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, with its focus on access, quality, equity, and accountability.
He added that proposals for additional teaching and non-teaching staff have been initiated and instructed the Tawang deputy commissioner to accelerate improvements on campus, including furniture procurement and boundary arrangements.

Khandu also suggested constructing a sports ground for the college near Tawang Stadium and assured that infrastructure development would continue in phases.
